Boom Boom Pow

Hello! It is raining cats and dogs in NYC tonight. Thankfully not literally...that will not happen for another 2 weeks ;-)

I was feeling much better today after conking out at 9:30 last night, sleeping through my alarm twice, and finally waking up at 7:07 AM! I missed getting in a morning workout, but I figured that would happen and planned to run after work anyway.

I was starving when I woke up and went straight to the kitchen for breakfast #1! I had the end slice of spelt bread- the best slice, in my opinion- with raw almond butter and strawberry jam. I then packed an ab&j sandwich for lunch since all the ingredients were already out!

Feeding frenzy! Shima, the buff cat, is totally giving Gracie, the gray cat, the evil eye. As usual.

After getting ready for work, feeding the crew and walking the pupster, I had breakfast #2- So Delicious vanilla coconut milk yogurt with about a cup of sliced strawberries and about half a cup of Nature's Path Hemp Plus Granola. This was so delicious and I'll definitely be eating it again soon!

For lunch and snacks at work, I brought an almond butter & jam sandwich on Rudi's Organic Bakery spelt bread along with an apple, a nectarine and a Lara Bar.

It seemed like a ton of food while I was packing it, but I'm glad I brought it all because I was very hungry all day! I actually could have used more food before the gym! Just a hungry day I guess!

I ate the sandwich with the apple, then had the Lara Bar around 4:00 and the nectarine at 5:00. By the time I left work at 6:00 I was starving and still had to get through a run. Thankfully it wasn't the kind of hunger that left me feeling weak. I got to the gym around 6:05 and knew I wanted to just get the run done fast so I could go home! I ran 4 miles total with 3 miles of tempo paced running:

*Half mile w/u @ 8:34 pace
*Half mile @ 8:06 pace
*2.5 miles @ 8:00 pace
*Half mile c/d @ 8:34 pace

I ran the first 2 miles at a 10% incline (just 0.1 on the treadmill...not 1.0 lol!) and the last 2 flat. I hate running hills on the 'mill, it feels so weird, so I usually don't!

It was a great, quick workout and my heart's still doing a little boom-boom-POW!

I got home ASAP and took the pup out, snacked on some carrots and cauliflower with hummus (unpictured), and put together a massive salad! My salad included romaine, black beans, 1/3 of a cucumber, half a red bell pepper, carrots, a tomato, hummus and balsamic vinegar. It was large and in charge- and I devoured it!

I always need something sweet after eating a salad with vinegar. Alas, I'm out of dark chocolate! So I turned to another stand-by: peanut butter! I had half a slice of spelt with a little pb&j. If I need more food I'll have some cherries in a few minutes!

I also made sure to take my iron pill this morning. I've tended toward anemia since childhood, long before I was vegetarian or even vegan, and I still feel the symptoms when I forget to take iron supplements. Since moving to NYC, I've been on a very tight budget. That means there's not much room for "extras" like expensive iron pills! I hadn't been able to find the cheapie VegLife Vegan Iron I'd been taking in LA & Vermont, so I bought a different brand, New Chapter Raw Iron. While I love that it's made from concentrated veggies and processed at low temperatures to keep the nutrients and enzymes intact, I don't love the expensive price tag. I'd only been taking one iron capsule about 3x per week, when I need one or even two daily during hard training. But yesterday at Whole Foods I found the VegLife brand! I got 100 tablets for less than $7, so I get to take one every day now :-)

I've got to run- those litter boxes are not going to clean themselves!
