Half Day!

I had a half day at work today! Ok sure, most people get a 3-day weekend, but I'll take whatever I can get at this point! Imagine how much saner people would be if they only had to work half days every day??

I tossed and turned all night last night. I just didn't want to sleep. I think I fell asleep around midnight, and when my alarm went off at 6 AM this morning I attempted to hit the snooze button for five more minutes of glorious shut-eye, but on my Blackberry, the "snooze" and "dismiss" are a mere click of the rolly ball thing away from each other. Yep, I hit "dismiss" and ended up sleeping til 6:30! I jumped out of bed the second I woke up and got my running gear on. I was very hungry so I shoved a Lara Bar down my throat as I frantically laced up my shoes.

I had just enough time for a hot & humid 5.5 miler in Central Park. I ran a lap around the Bridle Path and a lap around the Reservoir Path. Oh man, my legs are demanding a rest day tomorrow.

Once back chez moi, I walked the pup, showered and got ready for work, stopping to eat a delicious breakfast of 2/3 c. oats with 2 T dark chocolate dreams pb and a sliced banana! Believe me, this is definitely an exclamation point-worthy meal.

Sooo delish. I skeedaddled off to work and made it there just in time. It was pretty slow today thanks to us being the only place open on a holiday weekend when everyone is out of town. Around 12:30 I dug into my packed lunch of two slices of French Meadow's Bakery Healthnut Spelt bread with half a mushed avocado. Alongside it I munched an apple. Here it is in all its pre-made glory.

Clearly I put a lot of effort into making that photo as visually pleasing as possible. Annie Leibovitz would be proud.

I've been enjoying spelt bread and spelt products so much lately. I have a wheat allergy- it hurts my stomach and makes my skin break out- and I have slowly been testing other grains to see which ones work. Spelt tastes awesome and gives me lots of energy for running! This French Meadows bread is the first brand I've tried. I love the nutrition stats and ingredients, there's nothing sketch in it!

At 2:00 on the dot I was freed from the office and ran off to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I was a girl on a mission: Find spelt bagels! I have been craving bagels, but when eating a normal bagel means you will wake up the next morning with at least two big red zits, you actually think about crossing the street when you're about to pass Bagel Bob's. True story. But after creeping on the French Meadows Bakery website last night, I learned the god of carbs must truly love me because they make spelt bagels with only spelt, water and salt as the ingredients!!!

I struck gold at the Union Square Whole Foods! Not only did I find my coveted bagels, I also got great deals on Clif Bars, Lara Bars, So Delicious coconut milk, Vitamin Water and Rudi's Organic Bakery spelt breads all thanks to the coupons in their summer flyer. Pick a couple up, you can use the coupons til August!!! My WF loot:
Lara bars, Vitamin Water Zero, Unsweetened Coconut Milk, brown rice cucumber avocado roll, 2 loaves of Rudi's spelt bread, spetl bagels, three Clif Bars, and bananas.

I then headed down the street to Trader Joe's. Despite the massive crowds of people making it impossible to walk faster than a snail in the special olympics, TJ's was virtually empty. By this, I mean it was like a grocery store anywhere other than Manhattan on a Sunday. The lines were short and I was one happy girl! I picked up the basics:

Sharp cheddar cheese for my dog (spoiled much?), unsalted crunchy pb, strawberry presesrves, romaine lettuce, carrots, the very last bell pepper in the store, cauliflower, 2 tubs of spicy hummus, apples, 2 Clif Z-Bars for pre-run fuel, and another Clif Bar b/c I wasn't sure if the ones at WF were as cheap as the ones at TJ's. It turns out both stores sell them for 99 cents regularly, but with the coupons from WF, they are the ones to purchase from now til August ;-)

I ripped open a Clif Bar on the subway back up to the UES. I hate eating in public places, I feel like everyone's staring at me! But I didn't want to waste time eating when I got home.

Aaaand I may or may not have sampled the end slice of Rudi's Organic spelt bread while unpacking groceries. I had half plain and half with spicy chipotle hummus.

A review is on the way for tomorrow's post since I have plans of grandeur for a pb&j tomorrow morning, but suffice it to say that this bread is everything I've been searching for all my wheat-free life (yep, all 2 months of it lol). Soft, chewy, mild-tasting and hearty. More tomorrow!

After the snack fest, pup and I went for another walk. What actually happened is she walked 8 blocks, got too hot, sat on the pavement panting and refusing to move, and was carried back like the spoiled princess that she is. She and the cats got treats as soon as we got back! I love having extra time to spend with them!

With a face like that, she basically gets away with murder on a daily basis.

I'm off for run #2 of the day. On days of less work than usual I love to cram in as much running as possible. Since the leggies are super tired, it will be a short 4 miler. Then dinner and relaxing!
